Climate Catalysts Indonesia was officially founded in October 2023 by Samintang, Nurul Habaib Al Mukarammah, and Kwan Wirawan Kwandou, who share the same vision of empowering youth to take action for climate solutions in Eastern Indonesia, a region that is especially vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Driven by the urgency of the climate crisis and the belief that young people can be powerful agents of change, they set out to build a movement rooted in awareness, collaboration, and action.
This initiative was made possible with the support and inspiration from Turning Green, a global program funded by the U.S. Department of State and implemented by Meridian International Center. That partnership not only provided the initial spark, but also connected us to a broader global network of changemakers working toward sustainability and climate justice.
What began as a small spark of collaboration has since grown into a dynamic movement that empowers young people across Indonesia and beyond to take meaningful action for the climate. Today, Climate Catalysts Indonesia continues to serve as a platform where students, activists, and future leaders come together to learn, share, and co-create solutions for a more sustainable and resilient world.
The impacts of climate change and environmental degradation are already real—extreme weather, damaged ecosystems, and rising vulnerabilities, especially in Eastern Indonesia. This is not a distant issue; it is happening right here, in our own backyard.
Climate Catalysts Indonesia was born to bridge this gap. We believe that change starts with awareness. That’s why we focus on raising awareness and providing education about the environment and climate change to young people—the generation that will shape our planet’s future.
Since our formation, we have inspired and empowered many young people, especially students, to take real action for the environment. From classrooms to local communities, we are here to ensure that youth voices are part of the climate solution.
